Minister's Statement - Amendments to Regulation 440
"In August 2016, I issued a directive to the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission regarding proposed changes to Regulation 440, the regulation that governs the marketing of vegetables for processing in Ontario.
At this time, I indicated that the Commission must consult with the sector and conduct a thorough economic analysis of industry competitiveness and opportunities for growth before any regulatory changes were made.
The Commission has since fulfilled my directive, which included posting proposed amendments for an extended 60 day comment period.
I am pleased to hear that changes in the final regulation reflect the valuable input the Commission received from stakeholders.
I would like to thank the Commission for all of their hard work to ensure that the amended regulation was in place before the end of the year.
By working together, we will continue to ensure that Ontario's processing vegetable sector remains an important economic driver for the province of Ontario."
Jeff Leal, Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
Amendments to R.R.O. 1990, Regulation 440 (Vegetables for Processing - Marketing) were filed with the Registrar of Regulations on December 21, 2017.
