Plant Assistance Program (MPAP) This Program provides assistance
to: - non-federally registered Slaughter Plants (abattoirs)
-
Free-standing meat plants
that must comply with O.Reg. 31/05 under
the Food Safety and Quality Act, 2001. To receive funding under this
program, your plant must be licensed by the Food Inspection Brach of OMAFRA. What
grants can I receive?Grants are to help cover expenses you incur to comply
with Ontario Regulation 31/05. The province shares these costs with you, up to
set maximums. Here's how it works. -
For
eligible capital costs: Ontario pays up to 50% of these costs, to a maximum
of $25,000 per plant. Examples of items you could claim for are: knife sanitizers
and hands free sinks, floors and walls, refrigeration, drains and additions. -
For eligible non-capital costs: Ontario pays up to 75% of
these costs, to a maximum of $10,000 per plant. Examples of items you could claim
for are: food handler training course, engineering costs and consultant costs.
You are encouraged to apply for these grants as soon
as possible. Applications will be accepted up October 1, 2009
for the following category: Plant Category: FSMPs carrying
out only Category 1 activities and producing less than 500,000 kg annually (based
on 2004 production volumes). Category 1 activities include: - aging
or breaking a carcass or part of a carcass
- aging, boning, comminution,
cutting, fabrication, marinating, slicing or tenderizing of a meat product
- packaging
a meat product for wholesale, other sale, or distribution
- prepackaging
a meat product
- cooking a ready-to-serve meat product
- conducting
any other "low risk" meat processing activity.
DeadlinesThe
application deadlines have passed for the following categories:
- Abattoirs and Large Free Standing Meat Plants (producing more than 1 million
kg annually)
- Medium Free Standing Meat Plants (processing between 500,000
and 1 million kg annually)
- Small Free Standing Meat Plants - Category
Two (processing less than 500,000 kg annually)
